Menswear - Autumn / Winter 2021
VELES is a collaborative group project that aims to challenge the precedent of formal wear through fluid, engaging, and disruptive fashion design. The RE-FORM menswear collection was inspired by dystopian nature, a world where overgrown nature has taken over buildings and landscapes. The collection highlights the juxtaposition of tailored silhouettes, which represents the structured architecture, combined with whimsical design elements, representing the organic aspects of nature. The designs feature a blue, teal, and green jewel / mineral tone colour palette through various fabrics, including organic chiffons and organzas paired with structured velvets and wools. In addition, each outfit of the collection includes unique elements such as fabric manipulations, projectile components, and special effects pigments that contribute to telling the story of a dystopian nature.
The second look of the collection consists of a three-garment outfit with a jacket, shirt, and pants. The first garment features a teal wool jacket with an asymmetrical organza overlay that is finished with a raw, burned hem to achieve a concrete-like aesthetic. The white organza shirt includes biohazard motifs painted using a photochromic special effects pigment that transforms from green to teal when exposed to solar or ultraviolet light. The grey wool pants involve a fabric manipulation using cording that is stitched in a curvilinear shape in order to replicate growing vines on a concrete building.
